Crosspool U11s Greens Vs Greasbrough
Sunday 15th September 2013
Our first home game of the season began with a period of pressure from Crosspool, but the visitors scored first against the run of play. Despite this early set back, the lads kept their heads up and equalised through William Rigby after good work by Tom Walker. Further pressure lead to Crosspool taking a 2-1 lead with Jon Wilde scoring, with another assist from Tom.
Crosspool then conceded 2 soft goals either side of half time, with a loss of concentration giving Greasbrough too much time on the ball, allowing them to score from long range.
Matty Leary made a tremendous penalty save at 2-3, only for the referee to order a retake for encroachment. Predictably, Greasbrough scored from the retaken penalty to make it 2-4. The referee then gave another penalty against Crosspool for a push on a Greasbrough player. Whilst this penalty decision may have seemed harsh, it was accepted by Crosspool without complaint. Matty again showed his shot stopping ability to make a fine save from the spot kick and keep the score at 2-4.
Crosspool finished the game strongly, forcing Greasbrough to concede an own goal toward the end of the game after great work by Fred. The final minutes went too quickly for Crosspool to force the draw that their superb effort deserved.
Final score: Crosspool U11s Green 3 - 4 Greasbrough
Maltby Miner's Welfare Vs Crosspool U11s Greens
Sunday 22nd September 2013
Crosspool began the game with determination and focus against top of the table Maltby, with Joseph Pritchett man marking Maltby's number 11. After conceding an early goal, Crosspool hit back quickly through William Rigby, with fine support from Joseph. The rest of the half was mostly even, with great midfield work to close Maltby down from Fred, Alex and Joseph before a mad 20 minutes of poor marking either side of half time saw Crosspool concede 3 soft goals against a strong Maltby attack, 1-4.
Jon Wilde scored his first goal of the game to make it 2-4 after good attacking wing play from Joe Ridge, before Tom Walker scored his first Crosspool goal with a left footed poacher's goal, 3-4 and 10 minutes to play. Dilan Rughani marshalled his defence well to absorb some second half Maltby pressure before the final goal came after Tom played the ball through the middle to Jon. Jon still had plenty to do, holding off two defenders to run on and slot the ball past the Maltby keeper, scoring a well-deserved Crosspool equaliser.
This was a proper team performance, and it shows the character of the lads that they didn't give up when they were 4-1 down. Well done.
Final Score: Maltby MW 4 - 4 Crosspool Juniors Greens - what a game!
